Thank you for giving us a great over view of your life as a dialysis nurse. 🙂
Dialysis nursing can make you start to feel like a robot. So repetitive. What I like is that there are higher standards by the government and state in dialysis clinics in my opinion and there is more substantial training than areas like long term care.
good video.
Hi I have been dialysis RN for 25 years and I love my work.
I’ve been a dialysis nurse for almost three years now. It’s difficult at times, but I do enjoy it most of the time. Lol. You become a family with your coworkers and patients. Losing a patient is difficult, but you get used to it. Not to be insensitive, but you do. Sometimes you lose one you were close with and it sucks.
Our first shift starts at 0400. So I wake up around 0230 MWF. Usually only getting about 4 hours of sleep. I get to work about 0330-0340 and prepare for the day. I get off around 1630 or later, depending on how much computer work I was able to do during the day. Sometimes I have to go on a Tues or Thurs to do POCs or PUFs or just anything I wasn’t able to do on the other days.
There are positives and negatives just like any job. But my coworkers and the appreciation and gratitude that we receive from most of the patients keep us going.
Is it also called a patient care technician? Also, does the tech put the needles in the patient or does the RN does that? Thanks
Thank you for contributing your time for the patients. May god bless your kind deeds. Amen.
